These are a few of the most basic elements of story-telling.

The Plot, or storyline, is the events and actions that constitute an entire story.

Plot Structure and the narrative arc: This is a "how to" essay. Plays, movies, and novels usually follow a three act structure.

Theme is a conceptual distillation of the story; what the story is about.

Setting is the time and location in which a story takes place.

Narrative Mode and Voice This element of story-telling describes how the story is told and by whom.
